Q My hearing aid is only 2 years old but very weak, It is not doing me much good . I was told I need a new hearing aid. Can you help?
A Your hearing aid may only be 2 years old, but in that length of time the speaker (receiver) is probably ruined with earwax and body oil. Having your hearing aid repaired and all defective parts replaced will make your hearing aid as good as new.
Q I have been told my hearing aid is to old, it can not be repaired. That parts are no longer available. Is this true?
A Most hearing aids can be repaired (99.5%), regardless how old they are. For the rare hearing aid that can not be repaired we would return your check with your hearing aid at no cost to you.
Q I have been told my 5 year old hearing aid is no longer right for my hearing loss.
A There is that possibility, but that would be a rare case. Your hearing aid is not meeting your needs because of contamination; earwax, skin oil, dust, moisture, etc. When your hearing aid is rebuilt, you will do as well as with any hearing aid in perfect working order.
Q Do you repair digital and programmable hearing aids?
A We repair all makes, models and types of hearing aids. Analog (standard), digital, programmable, in-the-ear, behind-the-ear, eyeglass and body worn hearing aids. Hearing aids with remote microphones and also hearing aids with bone oscillators. We also repair the remote controls.
Q I own a programmable hearing aid, will the program be changed when the hearing aid is repaired?
A No, we do not alter or change the program when repairing your hearing aid.
Q I was told by my hearing aid dealer that I should never take my hearing aid to anyone other than himself for service, that my hearing aid can not be repaired by anyone else.
A Of course, that is what your hearing aid dealer would like you to think as it is in his best interest. But we, or any hearing aid dealer and most audiologists can offer you service for your hearing aid.
Q I hear "digital" and "programmable" hearing aids are better then the "analog" hearing aid I now own. That I will hear better. Is that true?
A Digital and programmable hearing aids are the new technology and are very good, but analog hearing aids still outsell them. Most users do not hear any real difference or find the extra cost of any real benefit. Analog hearing aids too are "programmed" to your hearing loss. But, most of that is done at the factory, at the time your hearing aid is built. Small adjustments can be made to most analog hearing aids once they are delivered to you. Digital hearing aids can be adjusted in ways that an analog hearing aid can not be adjusted, right in your hearing aid dealers or audiologists office. However, the adjustments are only as good as the person making them. Your analog hearing aid too can be "adjusted", but that has to be done at the factory or at our Lab.
Q Why should I send my hearing aid off to a distant lab, instead of just taking it to my local hearing aid dealer for service?
A Your local hearing aid dealer can do minimal cleaning of your hearing aid and will normally do so at no charge. However, if it needs more than that and has to be opened for repair, your dealer will not, or should not attempt that work himself. He too will send your hearing aid off for repair. That will normally take a couple of weeks or more. When you send your hearing aid to us for repair, we can get it back to you in as little as 3 days! That is, send your hearing aid to us via one of the "next day" services (DHL, UPS, FedEx, or Express US Mail), say on a Monday afternoon and you will have your hearing aid back on Wednesday afternoon!! Anywhere in the USA. See our order form for additional charges for this service.
Q Is it safe to ship my hearing aid off in the mail.
A Regardless where you go to have your hearing aid repaired, it will get sent off to a manufacturer or Lab somewhere. If you feel uncomfortable sending your hearing aid by First Class mail, insure the shipment. Or use UPS, DHL or FedEx. We ship mostly by "Priority Mail" in the states. "First Class" US mail to Canada, Mexico, The Caribbean Islands, Central and South America and other foreign counties.
Q I have seen a couple of other Labs on the internet charge less than you. Why should I choose your Lab to have my hearing aid serviced if I can have it done for less?
A You are right, you can have your hearing aid repaired for less, but beware. It is not possible to do that and use "new", or original replacement parts. Some labs start with a low charge, then add this and that. By the time they get done with you, the original charge may have more than doubled.
Q The top (faceplate) of my ITE (in-the-ear) hearing aid, or the case of my BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aid is broken. I am told my hearing aid can not be repaired, that I will have to buy a new hearing aid. Is that true?
A Most of the time we can repair the faceplate or cracked case without having to replate or recase your hearing aid. That of course will save you money. If the faceplate or the case can not be repaired we can replate or recase your hearing aid. We would call you and get your OK before proceeding with that additional work.
Q I have a BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aid. The case is broken and really needs recasing. My dealer tells me that my hearing aid is to old, that the parts are no longer available.
A We have cases for nearly any hearing aid ever made, going back to the '60's! We can recase your hearing aid. But, as stated above, frequently we can repair your hearing aids' case and save you money.
Q My dog chewed up my hearing aid, or I accidentally stepped on it and the case is broken. Or worse, parts are missing, is it beyond help?
A Well, it might look hopeless to you. Most likely we can repair your hearing aid, but we would have to see it. If it is a BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aid, just send it to us for repair. If it is an ITE (in-the-ear, any model) call us or e-mail us and we will give you further instructions.
Q I have the smallest, complete-in-canal (CIC) hearing aid. Do you repair that?
A Yes we do. When we talk about in-the-ear hearing aids, we include all the different models made. In-the-ear (ITE), in-the-canal (ITC) and complete-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids.
Q I cleaned my hearing aid and now it is either, weak, dead, or I just get feedback (whistles). Can I do something myself to correct this?
A No, your hearing aid will have to be opened and repaired. You most likely damaged either the microphone, speaker (receiver) or both. Send your hearing aid to us and we will repair it to like new condition.
Q What kind of warranty do you give on repaired hearing aids?
A We give a one year warranty, parts and labor. Our warranty covers your hearing aid for that year should it require service, at no charge to you.
Q I can not find the serial number, or do not know what make my hearing aid is, what do I do?
A Fill out the "order form" the best you can. Give us as much information as possible, do not worry about anything you do not know. We will take care of it here.
Q Why do you not take credit cards over the internet?
A We have given that some careful thought. There are a few reasons we don't. First, it costs us to accept credit cards, then to do so on the internet runs into more money still. We would have to charge you more! Second, a lot of people do not feel comfortable giving out credit card information on the internet. Third, since you have to send us the hearing aid anyway, it is so simple to just include the check or money order. One more thing, we do not hold your hearing aid for your check to clear.
Q Is my privacy protected? Do you sell names and addresses, telephone numbers or e-mail addresses?
A Absolutely not. We do not sell or share any information with anyone, period!
